What the tool calculates
- Quebec: Retraite Québec’s Family Allowance, the school supplies supplement, and the Canada Child Benefit (CCB). A Quebec family gets both.
- Rest of Canada: the federal CCB. Your province’s or territory’s benefits are not included.
- United States: the Child Tax Credit for tax year 2026, and its refundable part.
- France: CAF family allowances, from the second child, and the age supplement.
- Mexico: the Bienestar programs for children, which don’t depend on income.
Everywhere in Canada: the CCB
The Canada Revenue Agency pays up to $8,157 a year for a child under 6 and $6,883 for ages 6 to 17, from July 2026 to June 2027. The amount goes down above $38,237 of 2025 adjusted family net income, faster with more children.
In Quebec: the Family Allowance
Retraite Québec pays an amount for each child under 18, based on the previous year’s family income: at most $3,068 and at least $1,221 per child for the July 2026 to June 2027 notice, plus a single-parent supplement. Above $60,398 of family income for a couple ($44,032 for a single parent), the amount goes down gradually to the minimum. Amounts are indexed every January 1, so January to June 2027 will be slightly higher.
In the United States: the Child Tax Credit
For 2026, the credit is up to $2,200 per child under 17, reduced by $50 for each $1,000 of income above $400,000 (married filing jointly) or $200,000. Up to $1,700 per child is refundable: it is paid even if you owe no tax, depending on earned income above $2,500.
An estimate, not an official calculation
Agencies calculate with your exact situation: shared custody, a child with a disability, birth month, tax owed. Check your account with the CRA, Retraite Québec (CalculAide), the IRS or the CAF.
