When to pack the bag

Many parents finish packing around week 36, so the bag waits by the door, ready to go. If you have other children, plan their bag too, and who will look after them.

Documents not to forget in Québec

Two bags are often easier

Some parents pack a small bag for labour (snacks, charger, music, lip balm, birthing ball or massage oil) and a bigger one for the stay (clothes, toiletries, postpartum pads, baby clothes). The partner can carry the first one and leave the second in the car until it’s needed.

Check your birth centre’s own list

Every hospital and birth centre does things its own way: some provide diapers or gowns, others don’t. An installed car seat is needed for the ride home. If you’re not sure, call your birth centre or ask your health professional at an appointment.

A shared bag in Maliah

In the Maliah app, the hospital bag is part of the pregnancy profile, alongside the birth plan and week-by-week reminders. It adapts to the type of birth you’re planning, and your partner sees what’s already packed on their phone: no more wondering who packed the charger.
