Where the numbers come from

The lists come from Retraite Québec’s baby name bank (Banque de prénoms). It records the first names of children eligible for family benefits, which includes babies born in Québec and children who moved here. It is updated once a year, in the spring, with the previous year’s data, so the 2025 figures are the most recent. To protect privacy, names given to fewer than five children are left out.

Noah has been the most popular boys’ name every year since 2021, with Léo and Liam in the top 5 every year. For girls, Emma held first place in four of the five years; only Florence edged ahead, in 2023. Short, soft names lead the way: Alice, Olivia, Charlotte, Romy, Théo, Louis. Old-fashioned names are back too, such as Édouard, Arthur, Henri, Béatrice and Jeanne.

How to read the table

Not necessarily. Even the most popular name in Québec is still rare: a few hundred babies out of tens of thousands of births each year. In a classroom, chances are slim that more than one child has it. If originality matters to you, Retraite Québec’s full list also shows rarer names.

Once you’ve picked the name

In Maliah, the pregnancy has its own profile, shared with your partner: current week, appointments, questions for the next visit. Once baby arrives, they get their own profile under their name, and every feed, diaper or nap is logged by voice, with the time, for the whole family.

Why are the names written with accents here?

Retraite Québec publishes names in capitals, without accents. The tool adds the usual French accents (Léa, Théo, Émile) for readability; the rank and count stay those of the official list.

My name isn’t listed: what does that mean?

The tool only contains the top 30 names of each year. A name that is missing is simply less common; Retraite Québec’s full list includes every name given to at least five children.

Is my search sent anywhere?

No. The lists are built into the page and the search runs in your browser; nothing is sent to Maliah or saved.
