A snapshot, not a score
With a baby or young children, tasks multiply and often get divided up without anyone talking about it. This quiz doesn’t judge anyone: it gives a snapshot of how things are right now, to help you discuss it. Fill it in separately, each on your own, then compare: the gaps between your answers are often the best place to start.
How the result is calculated
A task done mostly by one person counts for them. A shared task counts half for each. Tasks that don’t apply to you are left out of the calculation. So the percentage shows each person’s share of the tasks that actually exist in your home.
The mental load
Naître et grandir describes the mental load as the work of managing, organizing and planning family life. These are the tasks that live in your head: remembering the vaccination appointment, knowing the boots are too small, planning a gift for Saturday’s party. They’re hard to see, but they take up a lot of room. The quiz sets them apart so they count in the conversation too.
Talking about it
- Pick a calm moment, without kids calling for you.
- Start from what the quiz shows rather than from blame.
- When a task changes hands, hand over the whole task, including remembering it.
- Come back to it in a few weeks: needs change as children grow.
Really sharing with Maliah
In Maliah, family tasks are shared: everyone sees what’s left to do and who’s on it, and the shared calendar shows upcoming appointments and activities. Feeds and naps are logged by voice by the parent who does them, and the weekly recap shows who did what, without anyone keeping score in their head.
