Why log feeds, diapers and sleep
The first weeks go by in a fog: nights are broken up, days blur together, and it quickly gets hard to remember when the baby last fed or on which side. A sheet next to the changing table or nursing chair solves that: you write it down in the moment, with nothing to remember.
A log that answers the questions at appointments
At the CLSC nurse’s visit or the doctor’s office, the same questions come up: how many feeds in a day, when was the last one, how many wet or dirty diapers, how are the nights going. Tired, you answer from memory, often guessing. With a few days logged, you just show the sheet: the professional sees the actual times and can judge for themselves. It also helps when you call Info-Santé 811.
How to use the sheet
- Keep it with a pen where you change and feed the baby.
- For a breastfeed, tick the side (L or R); for a bottle, write the amount.
- For a diaper, tick “wet”, “dirty” or both.
- For sleep, write the start and end time.
- The Notes column is for everything else: a burp, crying, a question to ask.
The tool gives no amounts and no “normal” numbers: every baby is different, and that’s your health professional’s role.
Sharing the log between two (or more)
A paper sheet stays in one place. When the other parent, grandma or the babysitter looks after the baby, everyone has to write on the same sheet, and it often ends up forgotten on the counter.
The same log, by voice, with Maliah
Maliah does the same thing without a pen: say “left breast feed for Noah” or “wet diaper”, and it’s logged with the time and who logged it. Your partner and invited family see the same log in real time, and the last-24-hours summary is ready to show at the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
What should a baby log include?
Feeds (time, breast side or bottle amount), diapers (time, wet or dirty) and sleep (start and end time), plus a free note when needed.
How many days should I print?
You can print 1, 3 or 7 days, one page per day. A full week is handy before an appointment or during the first weeks.
Does the tool say how many feeds or diapers are normal?
No. The sheet is for logging, not judging. To know whether everything is fine, show it to your health professional or call Info-Santé 811.
How do I fit the sheet on one page?
With all three sections, 8 rows per section usually fit on one letter-size page. With more rows, a day may run onto two pages.
Is my baby’s name sent anywhere?
No. The sheet is built in your browser; nothing is sent to Maliah or saved.
