Why plan the year by themes
A theme each month ties together activities, crafts, books and songs. The team shares ideas and materials, substitutes find their way, and parents know what their child is talking about at home.
How to use the tool
- Choose the first month (September for the new school year) and the year.
- Keep the suggested themes or write your own.
- Add each month’s celebrations, outings, closures and projects.
- Print in landscape: the Notes column stays blank, to fill in by hand at a team meeting.

What themes work for daycare?
Seasons, celebrations, animals, community helpers, colours and feelings come up often. The best theme starts from the interests of the children in your group.
Can the year start in January?
Yes. Choose the first month: the next twelve months follow from there.
Are my themes kept?
Yes, in this browser only. The “Back to suggested themes” button clears your changes.
Can I print to PDF?
Yes. In the print window, choose “Save as PDF” as the printer.
